Wheely kind gesture as cyclist Barry gears up to raise cash for St Christopher’s

A KIND-HEARTED Hayes man is employing plenty of pedal power to help raise money for St Christopher’s, the Bromley hospice.

Barry Humphreys, 65, is teaming up with some of the hospice’s patients to cycle 584 miles on a static bike - the equivalent of a roundtrip between Orpington and Paris.

Already a volunteer for St Christopher’s in Orpington, Barry hopes to raise enough cash to pay for new gym equipment at the hospice. Those taking part in the charity bid want to buy a specialist MOTOmed exercise machine, which will be beneficial for many hospice patients.

Barry explains: “I decided that for more people to have the chance to benefit from the specialist equipment and to cut down on queuing, I would step up to the challenge of raising £5,500 to buy an additional machine!

“As a volunteer, I see the amazing benefits many patients experience from regular exercise in our gym facilities. Despite often chronic illness, exercise not only helps improve patient’s mobility but also their well-being and confidence.

“A MOTOmed exercise machine is especially valuable because it provides a range of leg and arm/upper body therapy to patients, even if they are wheelchair bound.”
